Approval of Amount of Grants and Support Methods and Approval of Amount of Contributions and Collection Methods based on Universal Service System

Report from Information and Communications and Posts Administrative Council
  On November 27, 2012, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) received a report from the Information and Communications and Posts Administrative Council (Chairman: Atsushi Takahashi, Advisor to Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank) to the effect that it is appropriate to “approve the amount of grants and support methods based on the provision of Article 109, Paragraph 1 of the Telecommunications Business Act (Act No. 86 of 1984, herein after “Act”) and approve the amount of contributions and collection method based on the provision of Article 110, Paragraph 2 of the said Act.”
  The MIC will swiftly give an approval in response to this report.

1.Background, etc.

  The Telecommunications Carriers Association is a universal telecommunications service support institution. On September 21, 2012, it submitted to the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications an application for approval of the amount of grants and support methods based on the provision of Article 109, Paragraph 1 of the Telecommunications Business Act, and an application for approval of the amount of contributions and collection method based on the provision of Article 110, Paragraph 2 of the said Act. Then, on October 2, 2012, an inquiry was submitted to the Information and Communications and Posts Administrative Council concerning the said approvals.
  In response to this inquiry, the Council held an appeal for opinions from October 3 to November 1, 2012. On November 27, 2012, a report stating its approval was received from the Council was received.
 

2.Future plans

  The MIC will swiftly grant an approval in response to this report.
