
Appeal for Opinions on Measures for Utilization of ICT Contributing to Solution of Resource Problems
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has held the ICT Strategic Meeting on Life-related Resource Problems (Chairman: Osamu Sudoh, Dean of the University of Tokyo Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies) in order to deliberate on measures for utilization of ICT (information and communication technology) contributing to the solution of various resource problems.
An appeal for opinions on measures for utilization of ICT contributing to the solution of resource problems in order to assist the deliberation by the Meeting from December 27 (Thu), 2012 to January 31 (Thu), 2013.
1 Background
The MIC has held the “ICT Strategic Meeting on Life-related Resource Problems” (hereinafter “Meeting”) from December 6 (Thu), 2012 in order to deliberate on measures that contribute to the solution of various resource problems such as the rapid increase in energy consumption, worsening shortage of minerals and water, the rapid increase in the amount of waste generated due to the growth of global population and economic growth in emerging and developing countries by thoroughly utilizing ICT and to discuss measures for contribution to the “rebirth of Japan” through strengthened international competitiveness of related Japanese ICT companies.
An appeal for opinions on measures for utilization of ICT that contribute to the solution of resource problems will be held to assist the deliberation by the Meeting.

The guidelines for this appeal for opinions will be posted in the column of “press release” on the MIC website (http://www.soumu.go.jp) and the column of “public comments” on the e-government portal (e-Gov) (http://www.e-gov.go.jp) and also distributed for reading at counters of contact.
