Institutional improvement for commencement of services for new satellite mobile phones using 1.5/1.6GHz bands
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) held an appeal for opinions on a draft partial revision of the notice related to the Regulations for Enforcement of the Telecommunications Business Act for institutional improvement in response to the commencement of services for new satellite mobile phones (Thuraya satellite mobile phones) using 1.5/1.6GHz bands from November 29 to December 28, 2012. No opinion was submitted in response to the appeal for opinions.
1.Background and outline, etc.
There is a growing need for satellite mobile phones in preparation for disasters, as their effectiveness at the time of large-scale disaster has been recognized again.
In view of these circumstances, the notice related to terminal facilities using radio waves based on the provision of Article 31 of the Regulations for Enforcement of the Telecommunications Business Act (Ministerial Ordinance of MPT No. 25 of 1985) will be partially revised in response to the commencement of services for new satellite mobile phones (Thuraya satellite mobile phones) using 1.5/1.6GHz band in Japan.
2.Results of the appeal for opinions
Although the appeal for opinions on said draft revision of the notice was held from November 29 to December 28, 2012, no opinion was submitted in response to it.
3.Future plans
The MIC will swiftly improve provisions based on the result of the appeal for opinions.
