Results of State Secretary for Internal Affairs and Communications Shibayama’s visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar

  Masahiko Shibayama, State Secretary for Internal Affairs and Communications, visited the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on January 22 to 23, 2013, and held talks with government officials, including the Deputy Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology U Thaung Tin. At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) held the Myanmar-Japan ICT Workshop, in which the governments and private companies, etc. from both countries participated, with cooperation from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Myanmar.

2.Outline of results

  Bilateral meeting with government officials, including Union Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology U Thaung Tin, were held, and Japan requested Myanmar to reinforce the introduction of products and services of Japanese ICT companies and improve the environment for investment. The two countries confirmed that they would further strengthen the cooperative relation in the field of ICT at a high level.
  In the ICT Public-Private Workshop held over the two days, opinions on the state of policies, including regulations in the communications field, were exchanged with the government of Myanmar. In addition, examples of various ICT services ranging from infrastructure development to utilization were introduced by companies from the two countries and they participated in active opinion exchange and interactions. Both countries obtained great results.
