Inauguration of “Wireless LAN Business Promotion Council”
In response to the proposal made in the report from the “Study Group on Wireless LAN Business ” under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), the “Wireless LAN Business Promotion Council” was inaugurated on January 31, 2013 as an organization where various stakeholders concerned such as companies and organizations related to wireless LAN make voluntary efforts for solving various issues surrounding wireless LAN by.
Background and outline
The MIC had held the “Study Group on Wireless LAN Business ” (Chairman: Hiroyuki Morikawa, Professor of Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Tokyo) since March 2012 to sort out the current status of wireless LAN, extract and organize issues concerning safe and secure use and dissemination of wireless LAN, and deliberate on necessary measures. The Study Group compiled a report in July 2012.
This report from the “Study Group on Wireless LAN Business ” makes a suggestion that it is beneficial to establish a council for promoting cooperation and coordination through exchange of views and information on various issues surrounding wireless LAN among business operators and make efforts for solving them. Based on this proposal, the inaugural meeting of “Wireless LAN Business Promotion Council” was held on January 31, 2013.
Purposes of the Council
- Activities for dissemination for using wireless LAN in a convenient, comfortable, safe and secure manner
- Promotion of dissemination of wireless LAN not only in public areas but also home and offices
- Cross-industrial solution for issues faced by members of the Council
- Beneficial efforts to enable cooperation and coordination among industries in a time of natural disasters and other emergency situations.
