Launch of Great East Japan Earthquake Archive (HINAGIKU) of the National Diet Library

  On March 7 (Thu), 2013, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the National Diet Library will officially launch the “Great East Japan Earthquake Archive (HINAGIKU) of the National Diet Library,” a portal site that allows users to search and utilize digital data on the Great East Japan Earthquake in an integrated manner.

1.Outline

  The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the National Diet Library will officially launch, on March 7 (Thu), 2013, the “Great East Japan Earthquake Archive (HINAGIKU) of the National Diet Library,” a portal site that allows users to search and utilize digital data on the Great East Japan Earthquake in an integrated manner, for the purpose of handing all records and lessons of the disaster down to future generations and contributing to projects for recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas and future measures for prevention of disasters and reduction of their damages.
 

2.Great East Japan Earthquake Archive (HINAGIKU) of the National Diet Library

  This is a portal site where users can comprehensively search voice records, movies, photos, web information, etc. related to the Great East Japan Earthquake. The Archive is officially launched today through the test launch conducted from the last year. In the portal site, it is able to search movies and photos collected by universities, media organizations, search sites, etc. and materials owned by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Disaster Materials Collection (Kobe University Library) and the National Diet Library. Moreover, you can view images of the Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Investigation Commission, National Diet of Japan collected by the National Diet Library, and visit websites of affected local public bodies immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake.

  You can access this website from the banner on the top page of the MIC website and the National Diet Library’s website.
  (2) Nickname “HINAGIKU”
  This nickname came from the initial letters of “Hybrid Infrastructure for National Archive of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Innovative Knowledge Utilization.” The language of flowers of hinagiku (daisy) is “future,” “hope” or “compathy.” This nickname reminds us of the purpose of the project for reconstruction support.

4.Future plans

  In order to contribute to the recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas and future disaster prevention and disaster reduction, the MIC is planning to increase collaboration partners and further enhance searchable information.
