Expansion of Countries on Mutual Recognition of Amateur Radio Operators

1. Mutual recognition of amateur radio operators

The mutual recognition of amateur radio operators grants radio station licenses in Japan in accordance with the Radio Act (No. 131, 1950) to foreign amateur radio operators requesting so and does the same to Japanese amateur radio operators requesting so in foreign countries subject to mutual recognition agreements with the foreign countries.
Japan already entered mutual recognition agreements with nine countries, i.e., United States, Germany, Canada, Australia, France, South Korea, Finland, Ireland, and Peru. Recently, Japan entered a mutual recognition agreement with New Zealand as the 10th country, and the agreement will come into effect on September 29, 2013.

2. Details of mutual recognition

(1) The amateur radio license of New Zealand corresponds to the following amateur radio license of Japan.

General Amateur Operator's Certificate First Class Amateur Radio Operator
(2) The amateur radio licenses of Japan correspond to the following amateur radio license of New Zealand
License of Japan License of New Zealand
First Class Amateur Radio Operator General Amateur Operator's Certificate
Second Class Amateur Radio Operator
