Effect on dial-up connections of worm targeting vulnerability of Microsoft Windows

The MPHPT has been notified that one of the effects of the MS Blaster worm which takes advantage of the vulnerability of Microsoft Windows is that Internet usage through a dial-up connection can result in the connection staying live for a long period of time.

The MPHPT has taken this state of affairs into consideration and has requested ISPs, through the Telecom Service Association and the Japan Internet Providers Association, which are an industry body, that they keep subscribers informed and warned via their websites and email. Also, a warning addressed to general users has been posted on the MPHPT website at http://www.soumu.go.jp
