Committee to Promote Research on the Possible Biological Effects of Electromagnetic Fields confirms that long-term use of cellular telephones is not linked to the occurrence of brain tumors

The MPHPT set up the Committee to Promote Research on the Possible Biological Effects of Electromagnetic Fields (chaired by Prof. UENO Shogo, The University of Tokyo) in fiscal 1997 to conduct a study and investigation of the biological safety evaluation of electric waves.

This committee worked to clarify any effects related to the occurrence of brain tumors due to long-term usage of cellular telephones and, over a period of two years starting in fiscal 2000, exposed rat brains to the electric waves generated by cellular telephones in long-term exposure tests. The findings of these studies were recently compiled, confirming that there is no link to the occurrence of brain tumors.
