The
MPHPT set up the Study
Group Concerning Secure
OS (chaired by Prof.
MURAOKA Yoichi, Waseda
University) in June
2003 as a study group
under the Director-General
for Policy Planning
(in charge of Information
Communications). This
was with a view to contributing
to the investigation
for a framework on the
introduction of open-source
operating systems for
Japan's electronic government
and electronic independent
governing body systems.
The study group implemented
an objective and neutral
evaluation of the advantages
and disadvantages of
open-source OS and closed
source OS from a security
viewpoint, an operating
viewpoint and a cost
viewpoint, and recently
compiled its report,
which is now being announced.
