Public Comments to Be Invited on "Draft MIC Notice to Amend Part of the 'Plan for the Available Frequencies Allocated to Broadcasting'"
With regard to the termination of BS (broadcasting satellite) analog Hi-Vision broadcasting and the launch of new digital broadcasting, MIC developed a "Draft MIC Notice to Amend Part of the 'Plan for the Available Frequencies Allocated to Broadcasting (MPT Notice No. 661 of 1988)'." Thus, MIC invites public comments thereon during the period from February 8 through March 10, 2006.
The purpose of this amendment is to clarify the date of the termination of BS analog Hi-Vision broadcasting and the date of the launch of new digital broadcasting.
In accordance with the Basic Broadcasting Plan (MPT Notice No. 660 of 1988), the BS analog Hi-Vision broadcasting on "Channel BS 9" currently being aired by Japan Broadcasting Corp. (or, Nippon Hoso Kyokai: NHK) is to be terminated in 2007 and the new BS digital broadcasting is to be launched within 2007. In order to facilitate the transition from analog to digital broadcasting, the "Liaison Committee Established for Preparation Concerning Termination of BS Analog Hi-Vision Broadcasting and Launch of New BS Digital Broadcasting," consisting of MIC and relevant broadcasters, on September 15, 2005, decided upon that the BS analog Hi-Vision broadcasting will be terminated on November 30, 2007, and the new BS digital broadcasting is to be launched on December 1, 2007.
