Results of Extended Telework Trial for MIC Employees

MIC has compiled a report on the results of FY2005 extended telework trial for MIC employees, carried out during the period from October 31, 2005 through February 28, 2006, with the viewpoint of promoting telework for Japan.
The report (in the Japanese language) is available at the following website:
http://www.soumu.go.jp/joho_tsusin/telework/pdf/telework_kakudai_houkoku.pdf
Major points to be noted are as follows:
  1. There was no specific trouble. More than 80% of the teleworkers replied "It was a good experience to participate in the telework trial" and "I could spend more time at work."
  2. Upon teleworking, MIC employees could implement a wide range of administrative work, including planning, communications/coordination, information gathering/data editing and production of documents/materials.
  3. With regard to work management, more than 60% of the supervisors of these teleworkers replied "No specific problem."
  4. Teleworkers had little sense of being isolated from workplaces, by realizing a working environment similar to the real one, through use of TV conferencing systems. Since TV conferencing systems were monitoring teleworkers, it was useful upon checking their attendances.
  5. No trouble was found as to information security. Making use of the thin client system, which is a highly secure system for preventing information leakage, teleworkers could handle their work without specific trouble.
