Results of the 33rd APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group meeting (TEL 33)

The 33rd APEC(Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) Telecommunications and Information Working Group meeting (TEL 33) was held during April 23 through 28, 2006, in Calgary, Canada.
At the Meeting, Japan proposed "Future Vision of the Asia Pacific Information Society" to set out to develop a concrete vision of Asia Pacific Information Society toward a ubiquitous network society and this project was endorsed by the TEL. Japan is going to lead the work on this project and to aim to conclude the vision by the end of 2006.
Also at the Meeting, TEL restructuring concerning steering groups was implemented. Four Steering groups were reorganized into three steering groups, namely, the Liberalization Steering Group (LSG), the ICT Development Steering Group (DSG) and the Security & Prosperity Steering (SPSG) Group. Japan will continuously take charge of the Deputy Convenor of LSG.
The next TEL (TEL 34) will be held in New Zealand.
