The "Japan-UK ICT Symposium: ICT Business in the Next-Generation IP Networks Era" to Be Held

MIC and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of the UK will hold the "Japan-UK ICT Symposium: ICT Business in the Next-Generation IP Networks Era" on July 19, 2006, at Mita Kaigisho (Japanese Government Conference Building). The aims of this Symposium are to i1) deepen mutual understandings on concerted efforts among business, academia and governments in the two countries for addressing network migration to the next-generation IP networks, and ii2) raise public awareness thereon.

[Background]
In Japan and the UK, plans to replace existing public switched telephone networks (PSTNs) with IP-based networks that lead the world have been implemented. With NTT's "Medium-Term Management Strategy," KDDI's "Plan For IP-Based Fixed-Line Phone Network" and BT's "21st Century Network Programme," all information services will be provided over the same network in an integrated manner, bringing about unprecedented opportunities for ICT businesses.
At this Symposium, network operators and ICT policymakers of the two countries will make open presentations as well as conduct discussions on their efforts to address the next-generation IP networks, experiences and future perspectives, aiming to deepen mutual understandings and raise public awareness of said next-generation networks.
