Actual Results of Captioned TV Broadcast Programming, Etc. for FY2005

MIC has been making efforts to promote captioned TV broadcast programming, etc. in consideration of persons with hearing disabilities and the elderly to have access to TV programming. As part of such efforts, MIC has compiled actual results of captioned TV programming, explanatory programming and sign-language interpreted programming.

[Outline]
  1. With respect to the total hours of aired captioned broadcast programs in FY2005, those for NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corp.), five major commercial TV broadcasters in Tokyo and four major commercial TV broadcasters in Osaka has increased over the previous fiscal year, showing steady enhancements in captioned broadcast programming.
  2. 98.2% of all programming, which can be captioned, aired by NHK General Broadcast Channel were captioned.
  3. 50% or higher ratio of all programming, which can be captioned, aired by affiliated local TV broadcasters were captioned.
