Dispositions regarding Broadcast Program Fabrications

On March 30, 2007, with respect to eight broadcast programs of a series of "Hakkutsu! Aruaru Dai-jitenII (Excavation! Hither-and-thither Encyclopedia II2)" aired from January 9, 2005, through January 7, 2007, by Kansai Telecasting Corp., MIC issued a warning in writing to Kansai Telecasting. MIC found that those broadcast programs are in violation of the provisions of Article 3-2 item iii3) and Article 3-3 paragraph (1) of the Broadcast Law (Law No. 132 of May 2, 1950). Thus, MIC warned Kansai Telecasting to i1) avoid recurrences of broadcast program fabrications and ii2) establish a scheme for avoiding such recurrences.

Article 3-2.
(1) Any broadcaster shall, in compiling the broadcast programs for domestic broadcasting, follow what is laid down in the following items:
   iii3) Shall broadcast news without distorting facts;

(Standards of Broadcast Programs)
Article 3-3.
(1) All broadcasters shall establish the standards for the compilation of broadcast programs (hereinafter referred to as "the Standards of Broadcast Programs") according to the type of the broadcast programs and to the type of viewers these programs are designed for, and shall compile the broadcast programs in accordance with such standards.
