National Wireless Broadband Seminar 2007 to Be Held

A participating event in FY2007 Info-Communications Promotion Month, aimed at exploring new strategies to develop wireless broadband infrastructure
On Wednesday, June 6, 2007, MIC will hold a seminar to consider the future direction of local wireless broadband infrastructures that use the latest wireless broadband technologies, such as mesh wireless LAN and WiMAX, through examining aggressive and unique instances across Japan.

[Purpose]
In recent years, cases of local broadband infrastructure development using wireless systems, which allow low cost and early development, have spread across Japan. Particularly noticeable is the introduction of the latest wireless broadband systems, such as mesh wireless LAN or WiMAX, in addition to conventional wireless LAN systems (including high-power wireless LAN) and quasi-millimeter wave band FWA systems.

These cases have been intended to solve the last one mile problem in disadvantaged areas (digital divide measures) or preemptively develop a seamless and mobile ubiquitous environment, and are expected to be new models for local broadband development.

Under these circumstances, MIC will hold a seminar to explore the direction that Japan should take in developing wireless broadband infrastructures through looking at many unique initiatives taken according to local characteristics and needs, exchanging and sharing information, and considering the introduction of the latest broadband mobile wireless access systems, such as high speed wireless LAN or WiMAX.
