MIC today received a report from the Radio Regulatory Council (Chair: Prof. HATORI Mitsutoshi, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Chuo University) on its draft partial change to the frequency assignment plan concerning introduction of mobile radio stations for image transmission using a 1.2 GHz band, stating that it is appropriate to amend it as per the draft.
During the period from June 1 to July 2, 2007, MIC invited public comment on the partial change of frequency assignment plan and partial amendment of examination standards relating to Radio Law. Consequently, MIC received 21 comments thereon.
In line with this, those comments are announced below, along with MIC's view.
1. Reason and Background of Amendment
Recent demand for aerial photographs taken from lower altitudes has increased for such purposes as to take scenic photographs from buildings, to photograph completed buildings or cultural assets, and to comprehend the states of disaster areas struck by quakes or landslides.
To meet this demand, cameras and transmitters have been made smaller to enable photography from low altitudes, and transmission experiments have been conducted with radio-controlled helicopters and such that are equipped with 1.2 GHz band experimental radio stations.
Since the results of these experiments confirm that image quality can be preserved and that there is no radio interference with other radio stations, it has been decided to implement the provisions required to license these mobile stations as serviceable radio stations.
