FY2006 Revenues and Expenditures of Private Broadcasters and Cable Television Broadcasters

MIC has compiled the revenues and expenditures of broadcasters in FY2006, which is outlined below.

- Private terrestrial broadcasters
Operating income of broadcasters levels off for two consecutive years, although operating expenditures have been on the rise for the past several years. This upturn is due to a slight increase in profit for the current term, in spite of a negative balance in terms of both operating profit/loss and ordinary profit/loss.
Community broadcasting business saw dramatic increases in operating revenues, operating expenditures, operating profit/loss, and ordinary profit/loss because cable television broadcasters who generate comparatively large revenues operate three of the 16 new entrants in FY2006.

- Private satellite broadcasters
Both operating revenues and operating expenditures are on the rise for three consecutive years. Although a deficit still exists in operating profit/loss, the degree of the deficit has been reduced for three consecutive years. The balance of the entire satellite broadcasting business is improving.

- Cable television broadcasters
Operating revenues in the cable television broadcasting business continues to grow steadily from the previous year. The surplus in operating revenues over expenditures shows a year-on-year decline due to a sharp increase in operating expenditures.
