Proposals Received on R&D Themes for FY2008 Strategic Information and Communications R&D Promotion Programme (SCOPE)

From October 1 to 31, 2007, MIC invited proposals on R&D themes to launch in FY2008 under the competitive funding scheme1 in the ICT field, SCOPE2.
MIC now discloses the proposals it received.

1. Proposals received
(1) R&D to create ICT innovations: 99 proposals
(2) R&D to facilitate ICT innovation: 32 proposals
(3) R&D to foster young ICT researchers: 57 proposals
(4) R&D to promote ICT for local development: 92 proposals
(5) R&D to enhance international competitiveness: 20 proposals

2. Future schedule
Late November through early December 2007: Primary assessment of proposed themes (expert assessment)
Early January through Early March 2008: Secondary assessment of proposed themes (comprehensive assessment)
Early April 2008: Selection and release of themes to be implemented

Note 1. Competitive funding scheme: A scheme that invites R&D themes widely, selects themes to implement from among the proposals based on appraisal by multiple experts, and distributes research funds to the researchers who will conduct research into the selected themes.
