In regard to high-power wireless access systems that use frequencies in the 4900 to 5000 MHz frequency band, MIC will expand the areas where registered stations for such systems can be established from the Kanto, Tokai and Kinki areas to nationwide, and accept applications to establish such stations, starting from December 1 of this year.
- The registration system for high-power wireless access systems using the 5 GHz band, namely from 4900 to 5000 MHz (hereinafter called "5 GHz band wireless access systems") was launched on December 1, 2005 in the Kanto, Tokai and Kinki areas (hereinafter called "Tomeihan areas"), where great demand was expected.
- As registrations for fixed stations that use the 5 GHz band for telecommunications business expires at the end of November this year, MIC will expand the areas where radio stations for 5 GHz band wireless access systems can be established as registered stations beyond the Tomeihan areas from December 1 of this year. In conjunction with this expansion, Regional Bureaus of Telecommunications, including the Okinawa Office of Telecommunications, will accept applications to establish registered stations for such systems in the extended areas.
- Establishment of registered stations with radio equipment that has large permissible values of spurious emissions is not allowed in some areas in order to prevent impacts on radio stations in adjacent frequency bands. Even in such areas, individual stations can be established as licensed stations if assessment proves that they do not interfere with other radio stations.
- The 5 GHz band wireless access systems are expected to be used in a wide variety of broadband services suiting regional characteristics and needs, including those in areas where cable broadband services are not available.
