P2P Network Experiment Council Symposium to Be Held

The P2P Network Experiment Council (Chair: Prof. ASAMI Toru, Graduate School of the University of Tokyo) will hold the P2P Network Experiment Council Symposium on February 19, 2008, in order to deepen understanding of P2P technology and explore the possibilities of services and businesses using such technology.

1. Background
Based on the September 20, 2007 report of the Panel on Neutrality of Networks as well as the June 29, 2007 report of the Working Group on P2P Networks under the Panel, MIC has stepped up its efforts to promote understanding and the use of P2P technology in society. As part of such efforts, MIC is supporting the activities of the P2P Network Experiment Council, which was established by relevant providers of distribution service using P2P networks.

The Council is holding a symposium to introduce P2P technology trends and its newly developed Guidelines for P2P Services/Software, hold demonstrations for businesses, deepen understanding of the use of P2P technology, and explore the possibilities of services and businesses using P2P technology.

4. Target groups
Journalists, content holders, distribution service providers, communications carriers, ISPs, and technology venders as well as the general public, who are interested in content distribution using P2P technology (up to 200 persons)
