Authorization of Criteria for Business Specified in Article 9 Paragraph (2) Item (ii2) of the Broadcast Law

MIC today consulted the Radio Regulatory Council (Chair: Prof. HATORI Mitsutoshi, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Chuo University) in regard to the authorization of criteria for a business specified in Article 9, paragraph (2), item (ii2) of the Broadcast Law. Japan Broadcasting Corporation (President: FUKUCHI Shigeo; hereinafter, "NHK") has applied for the authorization pursuant to the provisions of Article 9, paragraph (9) of the New Broadcast Law1 (Law No. 132 of 1950)2. In response, the Council reported that it was appropriate to authorize the criteria as stated in the consultation document.
MIC will promptly authorize the criteria, accordingly.

Notes:
1. The New Broadcast Law means the Broadcast Law as amended by the Law to Amend Part of the Broadcast Law, Etc. (Law No. 136 of 2007; hereinafter, "the Amendment Law").
2. Article 2 of Supplementary Provisions of the Amendment Law stipulates that the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications can consult the Radio Regulatory Council in regard to the authorization specified in Article 9, paragraph (9) and pursuant to the provisions of Article 53 even prior to the enforcement of the Law.
