The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the National Council for Promotion of Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting have amended the Roadmap to Construct Relay Stations for Terrestrial Digital TV Broadcasting, to finalize the development schedule for all relay stations.
Terrestrial digital TV broadcasting services were launched in the three metropolitan areas (Kanto, Chukyo and Kinki areas) in December 2003, and reached all prefectures of Japan in December 2006. As digital relay stations have been developed across Japan, areas where digital TV broadcasting services are available now account for about 93% of the nation.
In response to requests from citizens and TV viewers for detailed schedules of the launch of services by each broadcaster, and in order to facilitate transition from analog broadcasting to digital broadcasting, MIC and the Council reviewed and amended the Roadmap to Construct Relay Stations for Terrestrial Digital TV Broadcasting (Relay Station List), the development schedule of digital relay stations in each region, in December 2005 and 2006.
They have recently determined the schedule for relay stations whose development schedule had not been finalized, and amended the Roadmap accordingly.
MIC and the Council will continue to review the list by considering radio emission from already-established digital relay stations and the situations of each region.
