Results of February 2008 Survey on
Broadcast Program Production

Key Survey Results
- Most of the broadcast program production companies are small- to medium-sized companies, as companies with capital of 50 million yen or less account for 89.2% of the total, and companies with 100 employees or less account for 91.5% of the total.
- Average capital investment in machinery and equipment per company decreased by 36.8% year on year, implying that the investment in digitization has slowed down.
- Out of the full-packaged programs that the production companies delivered, those that can be provided for secondary use with the agreement between a production company and a broadcaster increased by 7.5% to 49.6%.
- Out of the full-packaged programs that the production companies delivered, those that do not indicate the production company as program producer or creator totaled 64.6%, while 7.5% was broadcasted with the broadcaster credited as program producer and the production company as creator, 18.2% indicated both the broadcaster and production company as creators, and 6.5% indicated the production company as program producer or creator.
- The management issues that approximately 60% of production companies raise are low unit price of production orders (66.0%) and securing order quantity (64.1%). Approximately 50% of production companies raise the issues of securing experienced workers (56.5%) and enhancing ability to create content (49.6%).
