FY2007 Revenues and Expenditures of Private Broadcasters and Cable Television Broadcasters

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has compiled the revenues and expenditures of broadcasters in fiscal 2007, which is outlined below.

- Private terrestrial broadcasters
Operating income of broadcasters levels off for three consecutive years, while operating expenditures have been on the rise for the past several years. Operating profit/loss, ordinary profit/loss, and profit for the current term plummeted.
Community broadcasting business saw increases in operating revenues, operating expenditures, operating profit/loss, ordinary profit/loss, and profit for the current term because cable television broadcasters who generate comparatively large revenues operate one of the 18 new entrants in fiscal 2007.

- Private satellite broadcasters
Operating revenues slightly increased while operating expenditures leveled off. In fiscal 2007, BS digital broadcasting moved into the black on a single year basis for the first time. The balance of the entire satellite broadcasting business is improving.

- Cable television broadcasters
Operating revenues and operating expenditures in the cable television broadcasting business have been on the rise for the past several years. Operating earnings dramatically increased on a year-on-year basis.
