Public Comment Invited on Draft MIC Notice to Amend Part of MPT Notice for Specifying Details of Regulations for Telecommunications Numbers
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) is currently reviewing area codes and local exchange numbers for some areas in Nakatsugawa-shi, Gifu Prefecture and Asahi-shi, Chiba Prefecture, which are listed in Appended Table 1 of the MPT Notice for specifying details of the Regulations for Telecommunications Numbers (MPT Notice No. 574 of 1997). MIC thus invites public comment on the draft amendment from today to October 3, 2008.
1. Purpose of the amendment
Part of the MPT notice will be amended to unify the area codes of Nakatsugawa-shi, Gifu Prefecture and Asahi-shi, Chiba Prefecture in response to request from the local governments that went through municipal merger.
2. Outline of the draft amendment
Area codes for some areas of Nakatsugawa-shi, Gifu Prefecture (former Magome area in Yamaguchi-mura, Nagano Prefecture) and Asahi-shi, Chiba Prefecture (former Iioka-machi and former Unakami-machi) will be changed in Appended Table 1 of the MPT Notice for specifying details of the Regulations for Telecommunications Numbers. With this amendment, areas represented by such area codes will coincide with administrative districts, which will allow people living in the same administrative district to make a telephone call by using numbers without an area code.
3. Future schedule
After considering the comments contributed on the draft amendment, MIC will promptly amend the notice.
