E-Mail Addresses Sent Out by Mistake

The Land Mobile Communications Division, which is under the Radio Department, Telecommunications Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), confirmed that it sent e-mails on Friday afternoon, October 24, 2008, to those who wish to sit in on a meeting of the Committee on Measures for Efficient Use of Frequencies for Cellular Telephones and the Like, and that all recipients e-mail addresses were displayed in these e-mails by mistake.

MIC deeply regrets the inconvenience it has caused to the parties concerned.

1. Details of the transmission mistake
At 7:08 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2008, e-mails were sent to those who wish to sit in on the 32nd meeting (to be held on Monday, October 27, 2008) of the Committee on Measures for Efficient Use of Frequencies for Cellular Telephones and the Like to inform them of whether their attendance was permitted or not. In those e-mails, the e-email addresses of a total of 23 recipients were displayed for all to see.

2. MIC Response
Becoming aware of the mistake immediately after sending the e-mails, the official in charge promptly reported the accident to all parties concerned, expressing his regret and requesting them to delete the mails and change their e-mail addresses.

3. Future measures
In order to prevent similar accidents, MIC will put strict and appropriate e-mail control in place, including the checking of recipients and details of e-mails by persons other than senders before e-mails are sent.
