Public Comment Invited on Draft MIC Ordinance to Partially Amend the Regulations for Enforcement of the Telecommunications Business Law and the Rules for Telecommunications Business Accounting

Today, the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications consulted the Telecommunications and Postal Services Council on partial amendment of the Regulations for Enforcement of the Telecommunications Business Law and the Rules for Telecommunications Business Accounting.

The Council hereby invites public comment on the draft MIC ordinance until November 27, 2008.

1. Background

With the development of broadband infrastructures and IP-based networks, the telecommunications market environment has been changing dynamically. In order to cope with these changes and review the price cap, the MIC Minister consulted the Council on partial amendment of the Regulations for Enforcement of the Telecommunications Business Law and the Rules for Telecommunications Business Accounting.

2. Details of the amendment
(1) Excluding the leased circuit service from the list of specified telecommunications services to which the price cap applies
(2) In response to (1) above, modifying the Designated Telecommunications Service P/L Statements by deleting the "leased circuit service" column from the columns of specified telecommunications services and creating a "leased circuit service" column under the designated telecommunications services other than specified telecommunications services

3. Future schedule
Considering the comments received, the Council will conduct further study and deliberations on the draft MIC ordinance and submit its report to the MIC Minister.
