Final Report from Study Group on the Communications Platform Compiled

Since February 27, 2008, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has held meetings of the Study Group on the Communications Platform (Chair: Prof. AIDA Hitoshi, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo) to examine measures to strengthen the linkage of platform functions for the development of IP-based networks.

MIC hereby announces that the Study Group has recently compiled its final report.

Background
With the development of broadband and IP-based networks, MIC has held meetings of the Study Group since February 27, 2008 to examine measures to strengthen the linkage of platform functions that are indispensable to distribute content and applications over broadband networks smoothly, categorize issues for improving the market environment for promoting the creation of new businesses, and consider the direction of future policy. The measures examined included authentication and billing for distribution of content and applications.

The Study Group has recently finalized its report by considering the results of its nine meetings, which includes hearings with experts.
