Radio Regulatory Council Report on Draft MIC Ordinance to
Partially Amend the Rules for Radio Operators and Results of
Public Comment Procedure Thereon

To allow commercial corporations to provide radio operator training courses, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) developed the draft MIC ordinance to partially amend the Rules for Radio Operators (MPT Ordinance No. 18 of 1990). Today, it received a report from the Radio Regulatory Council (Chair: HAMADA Junichi, Executive Vice President, the University of Tokyo), stating that the draft is appropriate.

Meanwhile, MIC invited public comment on the draft MIC ordinance from Thursday, December 25, 2008 until Monday, January 26, 2009. It received three comments.

By considering the report and the results of the public comment procedure, MIC will amend the ordinance.

Background to the amendment
Attending training courses is one of the ways to acquire a radio operator license. Expecting that the creativity of commercial corporations may play a vital role in training radio operators, MIC developed the draft MIC ordinance to partially amend the Rules for Radio Operators to allow approval of training courses provided by commercial corporations and such. With the draft MIC ordinance, MIC also intends to streamline and simplify the application procedure for approval, and to review the matters to be entered in the application form and the documents to be attached thereto for checking the implementation and management of training courses.
