Public Comments Invited for the Proposals of Basic Policy Concerning Compatibility of IPv6 for Internet Services Etc. and Basic Policy Concerning the Desire for Network Technicians to Acquire IPv6 Related Technologies

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will be accepting comments from the general public starting today and ending on June 5th, 2009 concerning the Proposals of Basic Policy Concerning Compatibility of IPv6 for Internet Services and Basic Policy Concerning the Desire for Network Technicians to Acquire IPv6 Related Technologies.

1 Background
The MIC predicts even by early 2011 that IPv4 addresses, principal basic technology that are a foundation of Japan's social and economic activities for the internet, will run out. Taking this situation into consideration, the Study Group Concerning the Improved Use of IPv6 on the Internet (Chairman: Tadao SAITO, Honorary Professor of Tokyo University) was held from February of 2009 that conducted investigations into concrete measures that the parties including the government should take to raise the adaptability of IPv6 and promote the spread of the technology.
