Adoption of Proposals Regarding the FY2009 R&D for Expansion of Radio Frequency Resources

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has adopted proposals on R&D themes to be launched in FY2009 for expansion of radio frequency resources, based on the results of proposal reviews conducted by external experts.

Background of the Applications
Spectrum User Fee System financial resources are used to implement R&D for expansion of radio frequency resources. MIC invites R&D proposals for efficient use of radio frequencies, and entrusts R&D activities for selected proposals to research institutes of private companies or universities.
MIC invited proposals for FY2009 R&D themes for expansion of radio frequency resources from March 24 until April 23, 2009, and received proposals from research institutes of private companies and universities.

External reviews
A two-step review process was used to select proposals in order to ensure transparency and effectiveness of the screening: peer review by multiple graders having specialized knowledge; and comprehensive review at the research meeting to evaluate spectrum user fee technical examination services, which is comprised of experts..
