Results of Public Comments and Response from the Radio Regulatory Council on the Draft Revision to the Basic Broadcasting Plan and Development of Community Broadcasting Provisions

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has inquired to the Radio Regulatory Council concerning the revision of the Basic Broadcasting Plan and Radio Act screening standards in order to make possible exceptional measures concerning the community broadcasting antenna power, and received a response stating that the original plan was appropriate.
Public comments were accepted from April 17 to May 18, 2009 concerning the above changes to the notification proposal and radio act screening standards, and a total of 71 comments were received which will be made public in addition to the ideas from the MIC. The MIC is planning to change and revise the notification based on the results of this response and public comments.

Background of the revision

The community broadcasting offers information on living, government, tourism and other information relevant to the citizens in the area where the broadcast is received. The VHF broadcast has been institutionalized since January 1992 and an antenna with power less than 20W is the least amount necessary to cover the broadcast area.
