Publication of the Mid-term Report from the Study Group
Concerning the Improved Use of IPv6 on the Internet

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) held the Study Group Concerning the Improved Use of IPv6 on the Internet (Chairman: Tadao SAITO, Honorary Professor of Tokyo University) to study specific measures to promote the spread of compatibility for IPv6.

The results of these studied have been put together in the mid-term report by this study group.

Background

The MIC predicts even by early 2011 that IPv4 addresses, principal basic technology that are a foundation of Japan's social and economic activities for the Internet, will run out. Taking this situation into consideration, the Study Group Concerning the Improved Use of IPv6 on the Internet was held from February 27th, 2009 which conducted investigations into concrete measures that should be taken to raise the adaptability of IPv6 and promote the spread of the technology with the purpose of securing an available environment for the internet and additionally improving its convenience.
