Results of Public Comment on the Draft Notice Partially Amending the Testing Methods for Certifying Technical Standards Compatibility of Terminal Equipment

From Monday, January 29 through Wednesday, February 28, 2007, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), in pursuit of spread code speed (chip rate) for TD-CDMA (Time Division-Code Division Multiple Access) under the technical requirements of the third-generation mobile telecommunications system, invited broad public comment from all citizens on the draft amendments giving notification on setting up technical standards according to electrical requirements and required testing methods for certifying technical standards compatibility, and one comment was received. Based on the comment, MIC will quickly announce and carry out the notification.

Background of the Amendments

On December 21, 2006, partial findings were received from the Telecommunications Council on technical requirements to effectively use frequencies in the 1.5 GHz range. In accordance with revisions to the Provisions for Regulating Radio Equipment (Radio Regulatory Committee Provision 18, 1950), the need arose to update provisions for technical standards for the system’s terminal equipment.

Summary of the Amendments

1. Clauses determining testing methods related to certification of technical standards compatibility for terminal equipment (MIC Notice 99, Year 2004).

2. Clauses determining electrical and optical requirements for terminals in private telecommunication line equipment and such (Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications Notice 162, Year 1999).
