The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has created a partial revision proposal of the Guidelines for the Protection of Broadcast Recipient Personal Information based on the partial changes to the Basic Policy Concerning the Protection of Personal Information.
Therefore, the MIC will be accepting comments from July 8 to August 6, 2009 concerning this revision proposal.

Background of the revisions

The MIC has formulated the Guidelines for the Protection of Broadcast Recipient Personal Information (August 31, 2004 MIC Notice No. 696) for the security of personal information in the broadcast field, and has worked towards the appropriate handling of personal information.
The necessary revisions will be made to the guidelines by the MIC based on the partial changes to the Basic Policy Concerning the Protection of Personal Information (April 2, 2004 Cabinet meeting decision) and the collaboration of the total government’s guideline policies.
