Status of Contracts for Subscription Telephony and ISDN
at the End of Fiscal Year 2005

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications tallied the number of contracts for subscription telephony and ISDN services at the end of fiscal year 2005 (end of March 2006) reported from telecommunication corporations in Japan according to the provisions in the Rules for Reporting on Telecommunications Business (Ministerial Ordinance of MPT No. 46 of 1988).
The total number of contracts for fixed systems in both subscription telephony and ISDN services decreased by 2.6% compared to the previous fiscal year, resulting in a decrease for the second consecutive year.

By contrast, dry copper telephony marked a significant increase of approximately 6.8 times the number of subscription contracts at the end of fiscal year 2004, and CATV telephony showed a strong increase of 15.9% compared to the previous fiscal year.

The number of contracts here does not include the number of My Line registrations.
Figures in parentheses indicates the increase/decrease compared with the previous year.
