    (1) Report
    A. Current status of cable television
    As a result of deliberations, the report was accepted.

    [Summary]
    It was reported that there were 10 licenses granted for cable television broadcasting facilities with less than 10,000 terminals, which does not require inquries, during the period from last October to June of this year. There were also explanations on the status of cable television penetration, the number of cable television operators, and their business conditions.

    B. Technological trends of cable television
    As a result of deliberations, the report was accepted.

    [Summary]
    There was an explanation on the future study schedule for technical issues with the advances in cable television technologies, including IF transmission of BS digital broadcasts.

    C. Road map for digital terrestrial broadcasting on cable television
    As a result of deliberations, the report was accepted.

    [Summary]
    There was an explanation on the summarized results of a survey conducted with 530 cable television operators on when they will be able to support digital broadcasting, to be used as a rough indication of when cable television subscribers will be able to view digital terrestrial broadcasts.
    (2) Approval of the installation of cable television broadcasting facility by Higashiomi-cable network [Inquiry No. 1156]
    As a result of deliberations, the Telecommunications Council reported to the MIC that it would be appropriate to approve as proposed in the inquiry.

    [Summary]
    Concerns building a cable television facility in Higashiomi City, Shiga prefecture, to offer multi-channel broadcasting services including programs that provide local information. Higashiomi City was formed through two municipal mergers in February 2005 and January 2006.
