Release of “Beyond 5G Promotion Strategy―Roadmap towards 6G―”

  The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has been holding “Beyond 5G Promotion Strategy Roundtable” (chaired by Makoto Gonokami, President of the University of Tokyo) since January 2020. This roundtable aims to formulate a comprehensive strategy with consideration of the needs and technological progress expected when Beyond 5G, the next generation to 5G is introduced.
  In response to the recommendations from the roundtable, MIC has released “Beyond 5G Promotion Strategy―Roadmap towards 6G―.”
  Before this release, MIC made a public consultation on the “outline of Beyond 5G Promotion Strategy,” and MIC has also opened the result to the public.

1. Background
    MIC has been holding “Beyond 5G Promotion Strategy Roundtable” (chaired by Makoto Gonokami, President of the University of Tokyo) since
   January 2020. This roundtable aims to formulate a comprehensive strategy with consideration of the needs and technological progress expected when
   Beyond 5G, the next generation to 5G (so-called 6G) is introduced.
     In response to the recommendations from the roundtable, MIC has released “Beyond 5G Promotion Strategy―Roadmap towards 6G―.”
     Furthermore, before this release, MIC made a public consultation on the “outline of Beyond 5G Promotion Strategy” from Wednesday, April 15
   through Thursday, May 14, 2020, and received comments from 64 entities. MIC has also opened the result to the public.
     MIC will post references for this matter on the public comment page of the e-Gov (https://www.e-gov.go.jp).

2. Future plans
    MIC will promote this strategy in cooperation with related ministries.
