PROJECT NAME:

Construction of facilities to perform high speed satellite communications joint experiments and international joint experiment in the Asia-Pacific region

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN AND CURRENT LOCATION:

Kansai Office of CRL ( Communications Research Laboratory)
Kobe City and Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan

PROJECT COORDINATOR:

Mr. Noboru Yoshida, Director
Technology Development Division, MPT
Mr. Fusaki Matsui, Director
Space Communications Policy Division, MPT

BRIEF OVERALL PROJECT SUMMARY:

Implementation of following items at Kansai Office of CRL
(1) Construction of interconnection points among international joint research facilities relating to NII/GII technologies and info-communication test beds of participating countries. (Promotion of joint test, R&D, experiment relating to technologies to accomplish info-communications infrastructure)
(2) ImplementationÅ@of high-speed satellite communications joint experiment with Asia-Pacific and European regions

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

Those technologies required for implementation of global information communication infrastructure should be treated as a common property for everybody. Efforts to exploit its base technology is one of the major objectives of today.
There is no specific facilities in Japan that are currently available where they can conduct, with countries in Asia and other areas, international joint research relating to info-communications infrastructure, interconnection tests with test beds of individual countries and pilot networks and satellite communications test. As a result of this project, there will be a considerable promotion that will be accomplished in the construction of info-communication infrastructure through various application development efforts and the implementation of joint research relating to the development of interconnection technologies etc.

EXPECTED/ACTUAL RESULTS:

(1) Wide-spread use of technologies necessary for information communication infrastructure construction as well as realization of well-rounded enhancement of relative information communication infrastructure in the area
(2) The project is expected to materialize implementation of information communication infrastructure that ensure global interconnectivity which in turn is expected to promote its usage by public sector as well as in commercial area and would result in balanced economic development, the standard of living in relevant area and ultimately to the accomplishment of global stability.

PARTNERS/ACTORS IN THE PROJECT:

Kansai Office of CRL (Communications Research Laboratory)

USE OF INFORMATION / TELEMATIC TECHNOLOGIES:

Interconnection technology of terminals residing on different operating system and using different communication applications interconnection technology of networks at high speed and medium or low speed.

BENEFITS TO THE INFORMATION SOCIETY:

The project is expected to make material contribution to the development of information society through implementation of high speed transmission that enables creation and scale-up of new and global market as well as transmission of corporate business data

EXPECTED COST:

Yen 2.0 billion
