KEYWORDS USED FOR WWW INVENTORY:
PROJECT NAME:
Prediction of earthquakes by observation facilities analysis on diastrophism
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN AND CURRENT LOCATION:
Communications Research Laboratory(CRL), Ministry of Posts and
Telecommunications (MPT), Japan.
PROJECT COORDINATOR:
Mr. Noboru Yoshida, Director of Technology Development Division, Communications Policy Bureau, MPT
BRIEF OVERALL PROJECT SUMMARY:
Communications Research Laboratory (CRL) is completing
observation facilities of wide-area diastrophism by using
Very Long Baseline Interferometers (VLBI) and Satellite Laser
Ranging (SLR) which enable the most accurate observation
of the earth with a view to predicting the earthquakes.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
This project is to continually monitor 3D changes of diastrophism at
4 metropolitan observation stations (Koganei, Kashima, Miura, and
Tateyama) with accuracy of
several millimeters.
EXPECTED/ACTUAL RESULTS:
This project will make possible daily observation of diastrophism with an accuracy by several millimeters which will provide advance notice of a severe directly below ground earthquake which it is feared will occur in the Metropolitan area.
PARTNERS/ACTORS IN THE PROJECT:
Communications Research Laboratory, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.
USE OF INFORMATION/TELEMATIC TECHNOLOGIES:
Space geodetic technologies, Laser technologies
BENEFITS TO THE INFORMATION SOCIETY:
This project will contribute to the maintenance of the information society by observing diastrophism everyday and give warning of a severe directly below ground earthquake that may happen in the Metropolitan area.
EXPECTED COST:
(N.A.)
