BRIEF OVERALL PROJECT SUMMARY:

PARTNERS Project have been operated almost everyday to make teleconsultation with exchanging full color still image and audio since Oct.'92. It seems that the experiment services will be very effective in clinical medicine.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

Promoting expansion of satellite communications and international cooperation in the field of space in the Asia-Pacific region.

EXPECTED/ACTUAL RESULTS:

To verify the effectiveness of distance-medicine in remote places using satellites.

TARGET GROUPS:

PARTNERS/ACTORS IN THE PROJECT:

Japan: Communication Research Laboratory (CRL), MPT, National Space Development Agency (NASDA), Tokai University School of Medicine, Nippon Medical College, Edogawa-ku Doctor's Association, PARTNERS Promotion Council.
. Thailand: 5 hospitals in Bangkok and 4 other areas.
Papua New Guinea: 5 hospitals in Port Moresby and 4 other areas.
Fiji: 3 hospitals in Suva and 3 other areas
Cambodia: 4 hospitals at Phnom Penh and in 3 other areas.

USE OF INFORMATION/TELEMATIC TECHNOLOGIES:

Satellite communications system using Engineering Test Satellite V (ETS-V).
Simple and small sized earth stations for ETS-V (antenna of 1.2m) Video conference system of fine still pictures by 9.6kbps analog circuits.

BENEFITS TO THE INFORMATION SOCIETY:

To verify the effectiveness of satellite communications systems in rural regions. To promote expansion of Distance-Medicine using satellites in the developing countries

EXPECTED COST:

The cost is estimated at $20 million. (This cost is sum total budget of PARTNERS Promotion Council)
