BRIEF OVERALL PROJECT SUMMARY:

This project is one of BBCC's B-ISDN application arch Center of Telecommunication Advancement Organization. In this project, HDTV system is used for medical remote lecture, discussion and symposium between Kyoto and Osaka Universities via B-ISDN. Super High Definition (SHD) image system will also be incorporated for telemedicine experiments.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

1) To specify system requirements in technical, operational and practical aspects through periodical model experiments.
2) To provide proposals for establishing new framework of expert collaboration in institutional and organizational aspects.

EXPECTED/ACTUAL RESULTS:

1) With the experiments on the information highway, a more practical studies can be made on the needs of the systems for enhancing inter-university cooperation, utilizing research facilities and promoting research exchange activities.
2) Contribution toward improving reliability and accuracy of medical practice through interactive exchange of sophisticated knowledge among specialist group, using medical image transmission.

TARGET GROUPS:

PARTNERS/ACTORS IN THE PROJECT:

Department of Medical informatics, Kyoto University Hospital; Osaka University School of Medicine; Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd.; NTT; Mitsubishi Electric Corporation

USE OF INFORMATION/TELEMATIC TECHNOLOGIES:

1) HDTV motion picture transmission technologies over B-ISDN
2) Super High Definition (SHD) image transmission technologies over B-ISDN.
