Multimedia Mobil Communications ProjectCOUNTRY OF ORIGIN AND CURRENT LOCATION:
Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, JapanPROJECT COORDINATOR:
Telecommunications Advancement Organization of JapanBRIEF OVERALL PROJECT SUMMARY:
In order to realize multimedia mobile telecommunications such as portable TV telephones, the project will use the submillimeter wave spectrum. Radio transmission facilities and computer simulation facilities will be equipped to conduct research on 6-10 Mbps multimedia mobile telecommunications technologies.PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
The project objective is to contribute to multimedialize mobile telecommunications.
In order to proceed with the project the characteristics of radio propagation of submillimeter wave spectrums are being analyzed and research and development into radio communications methods and communications control methods are being conducted.EXPECTED / ACTUAL RESULTS:
The project will reveal the characteristics of radio propagation of submillimeter waves. Thorough R&D on radio communications methods and communications control methods, development of various applications of multimedia mobile communications will be promoted.PARTNERS/ACTORS IN THE PROJECT:
Telecommunications Advancement Organization of JapanUSE OF INFORMATION/TELEMATIC TECHNOLOGIES:
As the key technology for the realization of multimedia mobile communications, items listed below will be covered by this R&D.
Characteristics of radio propagation of submillimeter wave spectrum radio communications method communications control methodBENEFITS TO THE INFORMATION SOCIETY:
By conducting research and development on what will be the basis of portable TV telephones, the project will create multimedia mobile communications market as a new segment in the industry. The creation of the new markets will increase domestic demand, stimulate economy and eventually contribute to development of the world-wide multimedia mobile communications.EXPECTED COST:
Fiscal Year 1995 1billion yen (For Fiscal Years 1996 and 1997, 70 million yen / year )
