BRIEF OVERALL PROJECT SUMMARY:

(1) This project conducts research and development into VC (Virtual Channel) technologies and VP (Virtual Pass) technologies which are required for the transmission of video databases through Broadband ISDN.
(2) This project makes possible the retrieval from terminal equipment set-up in and around laboratories videos of porcelain and glass works, etc., which are degitalized and stored in servers.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

To conduct joint research and development into the effective utilization through broadband ISDN of video databases dispersed locations, and to contribute to the promotion of future video application in private sectors.

EXPECTED/ACTUAL RESULTS:

(1) Promotion of the development of advanced applications which use broadband ISDN to meet with various user needs.
(2) Contributing to realization of intellectual society as a result of promotion of the above-mentioned in (1).

Professor Kuroda of Nagasaki University, and researchers from various manufacturers.

USE OF INFORMATION/TELEMATIC TECHNOLOGIES:

BENEFITS TO THE INFORMATION SOCIETY:

This project will make it possible to realize advanced applications, such as digital museums and libraries. The realization will be the result of the establishment of basic technologies for the utilization of dispersed video databases thorough Broadband ISDN.

EXPECTED COST:

1.5 billion yen ( Second supplementary budget in FY 1995) to be funded by Japanese government for R&D facilities.
