R&D on basic communications technology such as memory network control architectureCOUNTRY OF ORIGIN AND CURRENT LOCATION:
Shinjuku ward, Tokyo Metropolis, JapanPROJECT COORDINATOR:
Research & Development Department
Telecommunications Advancement Organization of Japan(TAO)BRIEF OVERALL PROJECT SUMMARY:
Development of an architecture that enable processing of data sorted by type and priority by conducting efficient control of network and memory are the primary objectives of this project.
This will lead to technological adancement that will enable the equiping of single and identical terminals with scalability (handling of all sorts of data from text data to video and color image data originating from HDTV) and will fully utilise the benefits of ultra-high speed ATM networks. This will simultaneously result in a great improvement in communications processing performance on individual terminals.
Through the project, standardization of relevant communication technology will be undertaken and the project itself would make a material contribution to international standardization tasks.PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
Contribution to the enhancement of Japanese domestic standards of living through vigor in multimedia industry and creation of new industries. It will also make a significant contribution to international standardization effortsEXPECTED/ACTUAL RESULTS:
Above mentioned architecture is one of the basic technology that will accomplish smooth and global flow of digital multimedia data. As a result of the establishment of relevant architecture and standardization, following socio-economic impact is anticipated:
(1) Increase in multimedia terminal diffusion as a result of ubiquitous availability of dramatically simplified and inexpensive terminals
(2)Warding off of potential "Flood of Terminals" at home and in the office
(3) Global expansion in the demand of network services
(4) Development of relevant industry in such areas as the manufacture of integrated circuit memory and softwareTARGET GROUP:
