Gunma

GUNMA: A Snapshot

Gunma Prefecture is located almost in the center of the Japanese Islands. It is an inland prefecture with mountains to the west and north and the Kanto Plain to the southeast.
The topography of Gunma Prefecture is very similar to the shape of a crane with its wings spread out, as expressed in a traditional Japanese card game called "Jomo Karuta" where the first thing players say when they play is "Gunma Prefecture, shaped like a crane dancing."

Gunma Prefecture is home to numerous hot spring resorts, including Kusatsu, Ikaho and Manza. In addition, there is beautiful nature even up to an attitude of 2,000 meters, marshlands in Oze and crystal-clear streams that branch off from the Tone River. A wide variety of agricultural and livestock products are produced throughout the year.
Above and beyond this, industries such as car manufacturers and traditional handicrafts are well developed in the prefecture, and the biggest cities are vibrant with the activities of government administration, industry and commerce. Therefore, Gunma Prefecture brings together both rich nature and lively cities that are full of charm.
