Online services and the Internet
  1. Online service usage
    Online service usage increased 7.0 percentage-points over the previous survey to 19.1%. Additionally, the ratio of establishments that are considering using online services ("have a firm plan to use online services" and "would like to use online services") was 31.1%. Combined with establishments already using online services, we expect that in the future 50.2% of establishments will be using an online service.
    Looking at the ratio of online service usage by industry, the highest is Real estate at 30.6%, followed by Finance (28.2%), and then Gas, Electric, Heat Supply and Water (28.0%).
    Usage increases proportionally with the number of employees.

  2. Internet usage
    The Internet usage ratio was 19.2%, a 6.9 percentage-point increase compared to the previous survey. The ratio of establishments intending to use the Internet in the future ("have a firm plan to use online services" and "would like to use online services") was 32.0%. Combined with the establishments already using the Internet, we expect 51.2% of establishments to use the Internet in the future.
    Internet usage by industry was Gas, Electric, Heat Supply and Water at 36.9% (the highest), followed by Service (25.9%) and then Real estate (25.1%).
    Usage increases proportionally with the number of employees.

  3. Internet Access Method
    The Internet access method with the highest ratio was "Other ISP's Access service" (52.9%), followed by "Online Service Provider's Access Service" (32.1%)

  4. Internet access configuration
    The Internet connection configuration with the highest ratio was "Dial-up (ISDN)" (54.2%), followed by "Dial-up (phone line)" (31.4%)

  5. Number of terminals that have access to online services or the Internet
    The ratio of "Number of terminals that have access to online services or the Internet" was highest in the "one terminal" category (45.1%), followed by "two terminals" (14.0%).

  6. Purpose of online service and Internet usage
    The purpose of online service and Internet usage with the highest ratio was "internal and external company contacts and communications" (55.3%) following by "external database access and information research, acquisition" (45.1%), then "present information and advertise via a website" (30.9%).

  7. Usage of online services and Internet
    The ratio of Establishments using both online services and the Internet was 12.6%, an increase of 3.6 percentage-points over the previous survey. The ratio of Establishments using either an online service or the Internet was 25.6%, an increase of 10.3 percentage-points over the previous survey.
