Greetings from Minister Sanae Takaichi

高市総務大臣
Message from Sanae Takaichi
Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan

Japan will convene the G7 Ise-Shima Summit as its Presidency in May this year.

Prior to the G7 Summit meeting, I, the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan, will host the G7 ICT Ministers’ Meeting in Takamatsu, Kagawa on the 29th and the 30th of April. The previous G7 ICT Ministers' Meeting was held about two decades ago.

During this period, our daily life has changed greatly through the evolution of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs), as represented by the Internet and smartphones. People and things at large will be connected via Internet anytime and anywhere so a society that can accelerate innovation is close to being achieved.

ICTs have become a vital part of our life. The G7 ICT Ministers will discuss what should be done for the G7 and the world to reap the most of its benefits by evolving ICT in order to drive economic growth and employment.

At the same time ICT related forums and exhibitions are also planned to leverage the occasion of the Ministers’ Meeting. Leaders from the industry, the government and academia will be invited to take part in intensive discussions on such topics as ICT-driven innovations and economic growth. In addition, the world-class state-of-the-art ICTs made in Japan will be exhibited.

Kagawa Prefecture, and its capital Takamatsu, are located besides the Seto Inland Sea, once dubbed the “Jewel of the World”. Blessed with luscious green scenery, an abundance of nature, and a mild climate, Kagawa has occupied an important position in Japanese history. Situated on a busy transportation route in the Inland Sea, Kagawa has developed a rich culture along with many distinctive industries covering both art and food.

Of the latter, I am sure that our delegates will especially enjoy Sanuki Udon noodles made with locally sourced seafood and vegetables. I am truly proud to welcome the world’s leaders to our vibrant home of Kagawa.

"The evolution to the new ICT society started in Takamatsu." - The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan will spare no effort for this be said in the future.

I sincerely appreciate your kind understanding and support for the coming meeting.
